DAGMAR RITTER
DAGMAR RITTER
Dagmar plans to simply ride north and stop for the winter wherever she is, then continue north in the spring looking for a new place for her and her family of animals. She has nothing left and will have to work. This isn’t a rich ladies vanity adventure. She has no route planned, no idea of what to expect, she only knows she must go, and go now. She has left Frigiliana in Andalucia on August 19th but already after 3 days her dog has been tragically killed in a road accident but her resolve is strong, there is no going back. We will follow her on this epic one woman odyssey, her own hero’s journey as she confronts her time of life and need for change.

2011-12 Production:
We aim to meet up with Dagmar once every few weeks and spend 2-3 days with her. She will be riding approx. 25-30 km a day via uncharted routes. We are in touch via mobile and GPS. Already we have filmed a pre-journey teaser and enough material for 3 episodes, her leaving preparations, family and the first legs from Frigilliana to Pinos Puente, Oliveras and Moclin in Granada province Spain, up through Oliveras to Ruidera. Every visit she has presented to camera in Spanish, English and German keeping us informed of where she’s been, what’s happened and where she’s going. She is being passed on by word of mouth from village to village by people she meets. There is a small team of friends helping her call ahead and find places to stay, this can only ever be a few days in advance as she insists on letting fate dictate her movements. We will film her with characters she meets talking about history, the current crisis, food, the old ways, stories of conflicts, earlier recessions, religious difficulties and changes in family values as well as reactions and reflections on her own situation.
In the episodes already filmed she discovers beautiful Granadino villages Oliveras and Moclin, baths with the horses in a picturesque river by a very early abandoned hydro electricity station and is invited to a family home built by two young Spanish friends, builders and flamenco players. She is treated to a private Flamenco concert, treated to local food and is invited to stay in a local rural cottage in the biggest olive producing area of Spain. Further north she meets Don Quixote, rides across stunning landscapes surrounded by lakes and wilderness, is invited to view a run down royal retreat and talks openly about the difficulties and challenges she faces. We are developing the format organically but have already incorporated the cameraman’s search for her and his preparations to film including the problems he encounters on each trip. Dagmar has the looks of a period drama actress, the practical skills of a wild west cowgirl and the passion and resolve of a pioneering settler. She is equally at home mucking out animals and sitting down to a high class diner. With so many qualities, why is she really doing this?
This is an Odyssey and not without risk, already her first dog has been killed by traffic and the film crew’s car damaged fording rivers to find her. We have slept beside her tent in beautiful valley’s under a blazing half moon in fields of wild horses beside unspoilt rivers and eaten with old men and women telling stories of forgotten times.
Dagmar has lived in America, UK, Spain and Germany and speaks fluent English, German and Spanish, she is an immensely practical and intelligent woman, a natural presenter and teacher but with a wild and unpredictable streak determined to push her limits to fully live her life before she is too old. She is a woman for our times, an inspiration not only to other women in these troubled times, but her life’s philosophy is an inspiration to us all.
This is foremost her private journey and never intended to be made into a film or TV series, that was Steve the film makers idea, she consented so unlike most scripted adventure documentaries this is the real deal and we are privileged to be allowed to follow her unconditionally whatever happens.
She is living her adventure as you read, inspiring female heroism, part journey of discovery, part spiritual cleansing voyage which promises to make for riveting television.
